The Museum of Flight

The non-profit Museum of Flight is one of the largest independent air and space museums in the world. The Museum's collection includes more than 150 historically significant air- and spacecraft, as well as the Red Barn(r) - the original manufacturing facility of the Boeing Co. The Museum's aeronautical library and archival holdings are the largest on the West Coast. More than 140,000 students are served annually by the Museum's on-site and outreach educational programs - the most extensive museum-based youth aviation and space education program in the country. The Museum is the only air and space museum in Washington State that is both nationally accredited with the American Association of Museums and a Smithsonian affiliate.

NSAC has secured the Museum for Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The area where our event will be is in the Great Gallery. Our caterer is McCormick & Schmicks Seafood Restaurant. Plan on delicious food, a great atmosphere and wonderful conversation with old friends and new acquaintances. More information on the specific gallery is listed below:

T. A. Wilson Great Gallery

The Great Gallery is a 3 million-cubic-foot, six-story glass-and-steel exhibit hall currently containing 39 full-size historic aircraft, 23 of which including the nine-ton Douglas DC-3 hang from the space-frame ceiling in flight attitude. These aircraft trace the history of the first century of flight.

Dramatically lit at night, the Gallery is a stunning architectural achievement.

Optional Seattle City Highlights Tour

Get the best view of Seattle . . . from the perspective of a local. Be escorted around town by a friendly and informative Seattleite who will provide historical background of the area, point out interesting landmarks, as well as give insider tips on special shopping and sightseeing areas.

The tour begins with a drive through downtown en route to historic Pioneer Square, Seattle's oldest residential area, now a major visitor attraction with restaurants, galleries and lively clubs. From Pioneer Square enjoy a driving tour past the heart of Seattle's Asian community, the International District. Don’t miss Elliott Bay’s maritime activity as the coach drives alongside Seattle’s bustling waterfront.

A stop at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks will demonstrate how the area's fresh and salt waters meet. The Locks are the most popular destination along the Lake Washington Ship Canal. This area features two navigational locks, a dam and spillway, a fish ladder, a botanical garden, and a regional visitor’s center. The Locks allow vessels to pass from the fresh water of Lake Washington, into the salt water of Puget Sound. A highlight of this stop is the underwater viewing at the adjoining salmon ladders. Following the Locks, the coach will embark on a scenic drive through Seattle’s best neighborhoods.

The final stop on this tour is Pike Place Market. Known for its exciting sights, sounds and aromas, Pike Place Market began on August 17, 1907 and has remained a vital part of Seattle's social and economic fabric for over 100 years. This nine-acre historic district hosts an estimated nine million visitors each year who come to experience a feast for the senses and to shop for a diverse array of products. Helping to make up the “market experience” are local farmers, craftspeople, and businesspeople. There will be time to shop and explore this fascinating area, and easy-to-read maps will be provided for those who wish to linger on their own.

Optional Experience Northwest Wine Tour

Situated on the same latitude as the French wine country, Washington State has a growing wine industry that is winning prestigious awards throughout the world. Your guests will learn more about Northwest wines as they visit three local wineries offering dissimilar perspectives on Washington wine.

The wine experience will begin at Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery. Located on 87 acres of arboretum-like grounds, Chateau Ste. Michelle is Washington's oldest winery, taking its place among the classic wineries of the world. While here, enjoy a tour that allows a romantic yet technologically accurate view of the art and science of wine-making, followed by wine tasting. After the tour and wine tasting, guests may stroll around the grounds and visit the extensive wine and accessory shop.

Guests will also visit Januik Winery for a Columbia Valley wine tasting. The rhythm and geometries of the agricultural landscape at Januik along with the craft, technology and patterns of wine production shape the architecture and feel of the winery. Sleek and contemporary, Januik is family-owned and uses an artisan approach to winemaking. The building’s design and surrounding landscaping celebrate wine’s agrarian roots and the artistry of fine winemaking. Rainier, the Olympic and the Cascade mountains, and the city of Seattle, The Golf Club at Newcastle features two championship, 18-hole public courses (Coal Creek and China Creek).

Even more memorable is the course itself.  Designed by renowned golf course architect Robert E. Cupp in consultation with Masters Champion Fred Couples, the facility combines characteristics of some of the game's legendary courses with innovative practices to provide an exceptional playing experience round after round.
